BONELESS

the cat regards
me upside down
with sympathy
do not mistake
his languid pose
that feline clown
for apathy
he chose to take
a laid back stance
has never wavered
from the start
the cat bares claws
and crimps the heart
this human need
to have a spine
walk upright
and right a wrong
leaves him
disinclined at best
to dissuade me
from the test
i’ll wait until he’s
had his nap then
toss the Rubicon
from my lap
